That bastard. I laughed at the words that had come back to haunt me. But the moment had passed. As I had stood inches away from them reliving a crucial moment in our relationship, he had shifted his attention to tomorrow.

“It will be the four of us with her, and that is final.” Asmodeus’s hands found his hips, aggravation clear on his face.

“My liege,” snarled Abaddon. His tone was nowhere near respectful. “I still don’t trust Sabnock. It doesn’t matter how much time has passed. There is no excuse for what happened—.”

“This is not up for discussion. Sabnock is mentioned so she is coming.” Feigning boredom, Asmodeus picked at his nails.

“If that is your will,” Abaddon ground out between teeth. “Allow me to bring extra guards.”

“It is not necessary. The four of us will keep her safe.” He contemplated me then, his curiosity mounting at my disinterest.

“But why the four—,” he sputtered to a stop, the words stuck in his throat. Pacing the room, he started again, “The four of us are in the prophecy…the four of us. Myself, Vine, Sabnock, and you.” He ticked each finger off as he met Asmodeus’s stern gaze. Abaddon's eyes widened, some sort of comprehension bursting across his features, only to narrow on me. It took two long strides and he stood before me. “Do you trust me?”

The gravity of his demeanor knocked the smile from my lips. This seriousness was not like Abaddon. I carefully considered the question. “Yes. Yes, I do.”

He smiled gently before casting his gaze heavenward. He placed a hand on each of my shoulders and leveled himself, his too serious gaze bore into me. “Who are you?”

A million retorts came to mind, years of lies had my true name cemented in my chest. I cleared my throat, an effort to loosen my vocal cords. It came out so softly, feeling odd but right on my tongue. “Aradia.”

“Aradia?”

“Yes. Daughter of Lucifer and Diana.”

“You are the child of Lucifer and Diana.” He seemed puzzled. I didn’t think he heard me until his arms slowly embraced me. His breath tickled my hair as I returned the embrace, confused by the emotion behind it. “We were told you were dead. That Diana was to have another and that's why she was hiding—.”

Anger laced Asmodeus’s words. “I tried to tell you all that she was alive thousands of years ago. I knew there was no way they had killed her. Then when I researched the full prophecy, I knew.”

Abaddon's arms crushed me against him. “You place too much stock in the prophecy.” I patted him on the back awkwardly. That got him to loosen his grip a little.

“My faith is not in the prophecy, but in us, in your mother. The four of us will handle this, and that is final.” Power laced his words. Steeling himself, his tone softened. “This is the best way to keep her safe.” Worried crimson eyes looked into mine.

“So,” Abaddon started as he released me, only to stare at me with awe.
